The early shabby chic ‘style was more magnificent and grandiose than it is today. Today’s shabby chic get much inspiration from the Swedish 1700’s and the stripped American folk-style shakers.
Characteristic of shabby chic is the rustic feminine romantic. White-painted, abraded furniture with patina, pale pastels, yellowing of fabrics, chandeliers, poor man’s silver, rose pattern and flea market bargains linen fabrics. Shabby chic style that was coined in the 1980s by the design magazine The World of Interiors and quickly became popular.
